Peachy Canyon Loop: Top 5 Paso Robles Bike Rides

If you find yourself on this page looking for some great cycling routes with less vehicle traffic in Paso Robles, you’re in the right spot!  We have some amazing back roads to bike and experience the Central Coast. Rent an ebike here or ride your own.

Peachy Canyon Loop:

This route is on the west side of Paso Robles and has plenty of wineries along the way, as well as massive oak trees and shade for summer riding. This is the best loop for country road riding on the west side of Paso including Kiler Canyon Road and Peachy Canyon Rd. The route should be ridden in a specific direction (Clockwise, as shown in the route link). PLEASE NOTE, there is a fair amount of hill climbing (over 1000 feet of elevation change) which will limit the range of eBikes if they are operated in higher power modes.

Mileage: 24.8mi

Description: Shady Canyons and Vineyards

Road Type: Paved with 1.5 miles on hard packed dirt road

Elevation Gain: Gradual gain of 1886 ft.

Bike Types: Road / Electric Bike

Tips for the Day:

  • Bring layers and gloves (depending on the season)

  • Sunscreen!!!

  • Think about bringing lunch on your ride by picking up sandwiches or salads from Red Scooter Deli (Local tip: order online ahead of time)

  • Google has offline maps that you can download so you can always know where you are

  • Try and make reservations for the first two spots you visit

Itinerary:

9:00 AM

Start off downtown with a cup of coffee from Joebella Coffee or Spearhead Coffee. Head out of town on Vine Street to take in some of our classic victorians until you hit Kiler Canyon Rd.

10:00 AM

We recommend making a reservation at Kiler Ridge Olive Farm. This hidden gem is just outside of town and has some amazing views.

11:15 AM

Hit the road for wine at Ecluse Wines, Fratelli Perata or Hope Family Wines. Feel free to eat lunch here if you brought it—and it’s allowed (some wineries don’t allow outside food). Alternatively, you could also eat lunch at your next stop. There are options to eat at a winery restaurant or picnic.

12:30 PM

After taking in some great views you find yourself alongside Highway 46 West (huge shoulder) cruising past several large wineries and rolling hills.

Turn right on Oakdale Rd until you reach Willow Creek/Las Tablas Rd. This stretch of road has been recently paved, is shaded with large oak trees, and has minimal car traffic.  The road will T into Peachy Canyon Rd—if you want lunch, you could easily detour to Opolo Winery, or bring your own picnic to Hammer Sky Winery or Brecon by going left. Keep on your route by going right. Lots of wineries around here, and you will want to take a break!

2:00 PM

Start the best part of the loop. There is a small incline, but once you reach the top, you have miles of easy downhill back into town.  Peachy Canyon Rd. has some amazing wineries we recommend—Villa Creek, Law, Six Mile Bridge, Nenow Family Wines and Calcareous, to name a few.
